Narrative puzzle

GIF preview

Here i designed a puzzle that immerses the player into trying to obtain the right code, while still immersing them into the environment of the house that they are placed in. There are multiple ways to sort books, and the layout allows for size, pattern, colour and numbers.

Design Documents

GDD Myth Islands

Inside you find a collection of different types of research that lead to the making of Myth Islands.

I wrote the introduction, methods of research, and the results in a way that is easy to understand, and am responsible for the layout the document ended up in.

Daggerheart Serpent Isles

This is my sketch of a small continent of islands, the type of people and culture the player will find here, next to an amouint of puzzles and activities.

Comic Sketch

Here i created a comic sketch for our game Mythical Islands. This game was made to be played on a plane, for people who choose gaming over films, audiobooks and other activities. We needed quick storytelling to give the game meaning without overwhelming the player too much.

Most importantly, i made sure this comic is universally acceptable and understandable, making sure not to use text or skeletons, keeping it culture and age friendly. in the final product, the explosions change to magical clouds, and the comic sound effects have gone.

About Me

I’m Levi Heering, a 20-year-old first-year student at Hanze University of Applied Sciences, studying Creative Media & Game Technologies (CMGT). My work focuses on the combination of narrative design, systems thinking, and playful interaction, with a strong focus on how story and mechanics can reinforce each other in games and interactive experiences.

I’ve explored this through a range of projects, including interactive environmental puzzles for TTRPG’s, narrative mystery puzzles and tutorial spaces designed to onboard new players and game masters into tabletop roleplaying. Alongside this, I’ve developed work in card design, UX/UI, pixel art in both 2d and 3d space, and voice acting, often combining these disciplines into cohesive interactive experiences.

A core part of my practice is building systems, for example a memory based TTRPG framework, interactive worldbuilding structures, or narrative design tools that shape player experience. I’m especially interested in “feel design”: how framing, questions, and interaction design influence emotion and interpretation in games.

Within team settings, I often take on roles such as narrative designer, level designer, and planner, with a focus on organizing ideas, shaping structure, and making sure all the ideas we come up with actually end up having influence on the final product.

Overall, my work is driven by curiosity about how stories become playable spaces, and how players can meaningfully shape the worlds they enter.
